Stella Mae Rhodes
April 13, 2012 - November 17, 2012
Stella Mae Rhodes received her reward on Saturday, November 17, 2012, when the Lord called her home to have eternal rest. Stella was born to the late Edna Journette and James Pannell in Delaney Court (Ballyhack) on April 13, 1927. She was the fourth child born of six children.

Stella was affectionately called “Nini” a name given to her by her eldest grandson. This name became not only a way to greet and acknowledge her, but truly a description of who she was; a mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend.

Nini was united in holy matrimony to the late Emmett Rhodes in 1975. Combined they had eleven children, and several grandchildren. Nini was led to heaven by her parents, her husband, Emmett Rhodes, brothers, James Pannell Jr. and Thomas Pannell, baby sister who she loved dearly, Geraldine Hooper and granddaughter, Yolanda “ Pinky” Pannell.

Those left to cherish loving and fond memories are her children, Douglas Pannell Sr., of Roanoke, VA, Betty Jean Rosser, of Richmond, VA, Francine Nash and Yvonne Miller, both of Roanoke, VA. She leaves to carry her legacy six grandchildren, William (Cheryl) Rosser, of New Kent, VA, Vicky Pannell, Douglas Pannell Jr., both of Danville, VA, Latrecia Pannell, Tanisha Nash and Dareck Miller, all of Roanoke, VA; brother, Frank “Punk” Pannell and twin sister, Della Miliner, both of Roanoke, VA. Nini leaves a legacy of strength and personality to her 13 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, November 24, 2012, at Morning Star Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. L. A. Lewis officiating. Family will receive friends one hour before the service. Interment will be in Williams Memorial Park. Friends may call on Friday afternoon for viewing at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to Hamlar-Curtis Funeral.
