Valerie Nichole "Nikki" Hale

April 25, 1975 - August 29, 2013

Valerie Nichole (Nikki) Hale, 38, of Roanoke, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2013, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital after a short illness. She was born on April 25, 1975, to Stanley Robert Hale of Roanoke and the late Rose Hackley Hale.

Nikki committed her life to Christ at an early age at High Street Baptist Church. She later was a charter member and trustee of Gospel Truth Ministries under the leadership of Pastor J.R. Hughes. In recent years Nikki continued her biblical studies under the tutelage of Reverend Kevin McNeil, Pastor of Mount Zion Christian Church in Floyd County, Virginia.

Nikki was a graduate of North Cross High School, Class of 1993, Roanoke College, Class of 1997, and Washington and Lee University Law School, Class of 2000. She was also admitted to the Virginia State Bar Association in 2000. She began her law practice, The Law Office of Valerie N. Hale shortly thereafter, and continued until her death.

Nikki was a member of the Beta Chi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and the Roanoke Chapter of the Links, Inc. Nikki was also very active in a number of community service organizations and served as President of the City of Roanoke Fair Housing Board, past President of the Blue Ridge Independent Living Center, and Legal Advisor to the Young and Powerful, a national service organization.

She was preceded in death by her grandfather, David Walton Hackley and grandmother, Earnestine Parker Hackley. She is survived by her father, a loving and caring grandmother, Eleanor White (Na Na); special uncles, Dr. Lloyd V. Hackley, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Lewey B. Hale, Philadelphia, PA; special aunts, Pauline Hale, and Marian Gray, of Roanoke, special friends, Dr. Juan Evans, Baltimore, Maryland, Kianna Wade, Belinda English and Sheritta Pennix, Roanoke; godparents, Judge George W. Harris and Helen Harris, Charles Price and Anita Price, Roanoke and Bernadine Pullens, Richmond, Virginia, as well as many other caring friends and relatives, including several who remained by her bedside during her recent illness.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2013, at High Street Baptist Church. Interment will be in Williams Memorial Park. Friends may call on Thursday, September 5, 2013, from noon until 4 p.m. at Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home and viewing will resume at 5 p.m. at High Street Baptist Church with the Reverend Kevin McNeil officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. with the Alpha Kappa Alpha and Links ceremonies beginning at 6 p.m. Procession will assemble at Lawson Building, 401 Gainboro Rd.
